Alignerr Review 2026: Is Alignerr Legit? What 2,866 Reviews Don’t Tell You

Is Alignerr legit? Yes — Alignerr is the freelancer arm of Labelbox, a real AI-data company, and it does pay people for training AI models. But that’s only half the answer. Its “Excellent” 4.5 rating on Trustpilot hides a pattern you should understand before you spend hours on assessments: most of those five-star reviews were written by applicants praising the AI job interview, not by people who actually got projects and got paid. This Alignerr review breaks down what the ratings really say, what contributors report, and who should (and shouldn’t) apply.

Verdict in 20 seconds

Alignerr is a legitimate platform backed by Labelbox, with real payouts through Stripe and listed rates of $30–$120 an hour. It is not reliable income: contributors report long waits for projects, work that goes unpaid when it isn’t reviewed, and accounts deactivated with pay withheld. Treat it as a side income lottery ticket with good odds on the hourly rate and poor odds on consistency — and never as a job you depend on.

What is Alignerr and how does it work?

Alignerr is the contributor platform of Labelbox, an AI-data company that sells training data to AI labs. Freelancers — Alignerr calls them “Alignerrs” — label data, write and rate prompts, and review AI answers. The homepage advertises an $80-an-hour average, “1K+ hired weekly” and “$1M paid weekly”, and says over 100,000 experts are on the platform. Those are the company’s own numbers; take them as marketing until you see your own dashboard. The current job listings are more concrete: language and data-labeling roles posted at $30–$35 to $40–$120 an hour, all remote.

Getting in works like this: you apply, sit through an automated AI interview (an agent called “Zara” asks about your background), verify your identity, and take skill assessments. Once you’re on a project, time is tracked with Hubstaff — Alignerr’s FAQ has a whole section on it — and you’re paid through Stripe, typically the week after the work. Some contributors report longer waits, so don’t plan your rent around it.

Why the 4.5 Trustpilot score is misleading

Alignerr shows a 4.5 “Excellent” TrustScore from 2,866 reviews, and links it proudly on its homepage. Read the recent reviews, though, and a pattern jumps out: five-star review after five-star review describes the AI interview. “Zara introduced herself.” “Great experience with the AI interview.” “Wonderful interview.” These are applicants rating the sign-up experience — many of them haven’t done an hour of paid work yet. Even Trustpilot’s own AI summary of the page says reviewers praise “the well-structured interview process”.

Two more details are worth knowing. Alignerr claimed the profile in August 2025 and holds a paid Trustpilot subscription, and according to Trustpilot it has replied to 0% of its negative reviews. None of that makes the score fake — it means the score measures how pleasant the front door is, not what happens inside the house.

What people who actually worked there say

The picture from working contributors is rougher. On Glassdoor, only 34% would recommend Alignerr to a friend, across 27 reviews. Four complaints come back again and again across r/WFHJobs, r/alignerr and LinkedIn:

  • Passing onboarding doesn’t mean work. Many people clear the interview and assessments, then wait weeks or months without a single project assignment (thread).
  • Unreviewed work can go unpaid. On some projects only reviewed-and-approved tasks pay out, so time you spent on tasks nobody reviews is time you gave away.
  • Deactivations with pay withheld. Contributors describe accounts closed for “fraudulent activity” with earnings frozen (thread). One Glassdoor review documents $126.26 in completed work left unpaid after a deactivation.
  • Support is slow or silent. The most common thread through the one-star reviews is unanswered tickets when money is on the line.

In fairness: Alignerr has responded publicly on Reddit that a wave of deactivations targeted fraud, and that “all deactivated Alignerrs will still be paid for work completed.” And the deactivation issue is common enough that Alignerr’s own FAQ now carries the questions “Why was my Alignerr account suspended or deactivated?” and “My account was deactivated and I was not paid for completed work.” When a company writes FAQ entries for a problem, the problem is real.

Alignerr pay by role

The short answer to “is Alignerr legit?” is yes, so the next question is what it actually pays. Alignerr’s job board showed thousands of open roles on September 29–30, 2026. These examples show how wide the range is — from transcription at $10 an hour to specialist math at $200:

RolePosted pay
Hindi Audio Transcriptionist$10–$35/hr
Healthcare AI Call Reviewer (Spanish)$15–$20/hr
Math Expert or Specialist$40–$60/hr
Coding Expert – C++ / Go (US preferred)$20–$120/hr
Code Review Specialist$40–$120/hr
Senior Machine Learning Expert$60–$80/hr

How to join Alignerr, step by step

  1. Sign in with Google and upload your résumé. Alignerr auto-fills your profile; check it carefully, especially your location, and set your skill preferences.
  2. Apply to specific jobs that match your background.
  3. Verify your identity: phone number by SMS, then a Persona ID check.
  4. Complete the AI interview and assessments if the role requires them — you’re told in advance. Reports on the “Zara” interview range from 15 minutes to an hour.
  5. Accept the contract and set up payment via Stripe Connect or PayPal, depending on your country. Alignerr’s process page says Stripe setup takes about an hour.
  6. Onboard: resources, an intro to the Labelbox platform and a Discord for project updates.
  7. Install Hubstaff and start the timer from inside your Labelbox project; pay follows the tracked time.

What the work actually looks like

Alignerr listings describe concrete tasks. A Code Review Specialist reviews AI-written Python or JavaScript for bugs and edge cases, rates it against rubrics and suggests fixes — no CS degree required, 10–40 hours a week. A Lean 4 expert turns theorems from textbooks and papers into code that compiles. A Hindi transcriptionist transcribes noisy audio with crosstalk and labels speakers. Healthcare call reviewers evaluate transcripts of AI phone calls.

What Alignerr contributors report

Individual reports from r/alignerr and elsewhere, not averages:

  • Waiting is the norm. Users describe the first project arriving after “days, weeks or months”; “two to three weeks is nothing, some wait months” is a typical reply to newcomers.
  • Passing isn’t the same as working. One user had passed all assessments and still had an empty workspace two weeks later.
  • Pay can lag behind review. Contributors say weekly summaries appear in Stripe the following week, but one user says pay tied to task review once took six weeks.
  • Assessments run long. A Glassdoor candidate says assessments estimated at two hours took six to eight.

Alignerr interview and assessment tips

  • Know your résumé cold. The Zara interview probes the claims on your CV, so be ready to explain each one out loud.
  • Ask when a question is unclear instead of guessing, and stay calm if the AI moves on too quickly.
  • Block out far more time than estimated for assessments.
  • Apply to several roles — and several platforms, since any single application can sit for weeks.

So, is Alignerr legit — and should you apply?

Apply if you have genuinely scarce expertise — a STEM degree, a rarer language, professional coding experience — and you treat it as opportunistic extra income. The listed rates are far above the usual side-hustle range (compare that with the $27-a-month “chat jobs” schemes we’ve reviewed, which only take your money), and it costs nothing to join. Skip it if you need predictable income: the search interest in “is alignerr legit” grew sixfold in a year precisely because so many people got through the door and then found silence on the other side. Freelancers who use AI platforms as one stream among several are the ones doing well — the AI-skilled freelancers earning 34% more per hour aren’t depending on any single marketplace.

If you do join, protect yourself: screenshot your Hubstaff hours and project dashboards weekly, withdraw earnings as soon as they clear, and keep copies of every support ticket. If your account is ever deactivated, Alignerr’s public position is that completed work still gets paid — hold them to it, in writing.

Alignerr FAQ

How much does Alignerr pay?

Current job listings run from $30–$35 an hour (some language roles) to $40–$120 an hour for data labeling and specialist work. Alignerr’s own marketing claims an $80-an-hour average, but your real number depends entirely on which projects you’re assigned — and whether you’re assigned any at all.

How does Alignerr pay you?

Through Stripe, set up during contract signup. Contributors on r/alignerr report being paid the week after the work; some report longer waits, and unreviewed tasks on certain projects don’t pay out.

Is Alignerr legit or a scam?

No. It’s a real Labelbox brand that pays many contributors weekly. The scam accusations you’ll find on Reddit mostly trace back to three real problems: no work after onboarding, unpaid unreviewed tasks, and deactivations with frozen earnings. Those are serious operational flaws, not a fake company.

Why was my Alignerr account deactivated?

Alignerr says deactivation waves target fraud (shared accounts, VPN location masking, identity mismatches) and that completed work is still paid. If you believe yours was a mistake, use the FAQ’s compensation-dispute contact and keep records of everything.

How long does it take to get an Alignerr project?

There is no official timeline. Contributors report anything from days to several months, and passing assessments does not guarantee work.

How long is the Alignerr AI interview?

Reports on the Zara interview range from about 15 minutes to an hour; it probes the claims on your résumé.

Does Alignerr track your screen?

Yes, on projects that use Hubstaff. Alignerr’s Hubstaff FAQ says the app “captures periodic screenshots of your activity” and records the URLs and applications you use while the timer runs. The Labelbox editor won’t let you keep working without the timer, and Hubstaff is free for contributors. If that bothers you, close personal tabs and apps before you start a session.

How often does Alignerr pay?

Weekly. Alignerr’s homepage advertises “$1M paid weekly”, and contributors in r/alignerr describe an invoice arriving on Wednesday or Thursday with the money landing on Friday or the following Monday. For payment problems, the FAQ points to Intercom in the Alignerr app or support@alignerr.com.

What are some alternatives to Alignerr?

The closest are Mercor (expert roles, weekly pay via Stripe or Wise), DataAnnotation (one-shot starter test, PayPal), Handshake AI (degree holders in the US, weekly Stripe pay), and Outlier and Prolific. The comparison table above shows pay, payment method and how you get in for each.
